My List of 100 Dreams
Last year I closed a very important chapter in my life. My hubby and I sold our home in Maryland and made our way back home to Southern California. I grew so much while in Maryland. I got married to my main squeeze, moved away from home after graduation, started off my career, and so much more. Moving out of MD was a difficult chapter to close because we had everything we needed and were comfortable. I genuinely felt, however, like we had reached our ceiling. This whole year in a pandemic has been A LOT to process and a lot a change but have you ever been in a situation where you know it’s time to close a chapter? I can’t quite put all words together to describe 2020-2021 but it was time for us to move on.
Despite the ambiguity and instability of the pandemic, I pursued this next chapter with intentionality and faith at the center. Not so much because of the pandemi of 2020-2021 but because I had many reminders that I wasn’t growing at the same rate anymore. Drawing inspiration from Laura Vanderkam and YouTuber Thomas Frank’s Impossible List, I decided it was time to get serious about living my dreams. In Laura V’s Off the Clock and What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast she highlights some practical ways to better utilize your time in a way that aligns with what’s important to you. One tool that she highlights was creating a list of 100 dreams and structure your time in a way where you can prioritize goals- big or small- overtime.
For many years, I have had a very inspirational Pinterest board that reflects my creativity, aesthetic and adventure goals. Very rarely though did I put all my dreams into action. After 2-3 years creating vision board exercises and goal setting, my vision and goals continued to remain the same. Let’s just say–stagnation. These strategies for some reason weren’t helping me reach my personal goals.
I now sit down each month and revisit my 100 dreams list to fit in 2-3 adventures a month and arrange my tasks so that I am completing at least 2-4 each month. Working my way backwards from a long list of things I aspire to do and checking in on my monthly list ensures that my time reflects those things most important to me. This list will be a growing and evolving list and I will update periodically. One goal that is for sure is building dreams that scare the crap out of me all the while leaning into that fear to realize them. The idea of doing a brain dump of my dreams and going to this list regularly, resonates with me and my thought process so well. Each month or quarter I like to narrow down on a few items on my list and work them into a month.
Feel free to join me in my journey as I cross these dreams off one-by-one! If you’re inspired to make your own list of 100 dreams, please share with me your takeaways or list of dreams on IG or tag me!
